Bitstream Renews Licensing Agreement
With Long-Term Client Sports Interactive
Leading gaming software developer continues
successful use of Bitstream font rendering engine and innovative fonts
in Europe's biggest online soccer game
CAMBRIDGE, MA December 16, 2002
Bitstream Inc. (NASDAQ:
BITS) announced today it has renewed a three-year agreement to
license its T2K font engine and several gaming fonts to Sports Interactive,
London-based developers of the popular cutting-edge Championship Manager
series of games. Bitstream T2K is a high-performance font
engine well suited for interactive applications. It provides high-quality
rendering in any format, for virtually any device, from the smallest
embedded systems to the largest multi-threaded systems. T2K offers
superior quality and speed, small code size, and font compression,
and it supports all major industry-standard font formats. In addition,
T2K is easily scalable to Font Fusion, the premier font-rendering
engine from Bitstream.
Sports Interactive publishes games for various PCs and the popular
new Xbox from Microsoft Corporation. The 2001 soccer title Championship
Manager: Season 01/02 was the fastest-selling personal computer
game in history in the United Kingdom, racking up over 103,000 copies
in the first weekend alone, according to a ChartTrack report at
the time. The previous record was set by an earlier version, Championship
Manager 3 , which recorded sales of 70,000 units during its
debut weekend in 1999. Championship Manager 4 , the latest
in the series, is due for release in February 2003 and looks set
to continue the record-breaking run.
As Miles Jacobson, President and CEO of Sports Interactive, explains,
"Over the years Bitstream has provided us with outstanding technology
and service and some of the funkiest fonts we've found. We're happy
to extend our relationship with this US partner."
Adds Bitstream President Anna Chagnon, "By renewing our licensing
agreement with Sports Interactive, Bitstream continues to maintain
its impressive stable of long-term clients and its connections to
the UK. We welcome the ongoing opportunity to deliver the consistent
legibility of our T2K font rendering engine to the computer gaming
market and to develop creative new font families to address this
fast-moving sector."
