Bitstream Appoints Anna Chagnon
as New Chief Executive Officer Promotion
underscores shift in strategic focus from an engineering to a sales-and-marketing

MA October 30, 2003 Bitstream Inc. (NASDAQ:
BITS) today announced that Anna Chagnon, who has been President
and COO of the company, will assume the additional role of CEO. Charles
Ying, formerly Chairman and CEO of Bitstream, will remain as Chairman
of the Board. "Anna has certainly proven
that she is ready to assume the top job at Bitstream, having run
the day-to-day operations of Bitstream for the past five years.
She has led the company through these lean economic times with significant
revenue growth while investing significantly in R&D," said Charles
Ying. "As Bitstream builds up its market share, Anna is uniquely
qualified to lead the company."

Ms. Chagnon has served as President of Bitstream
since August of 2000. She has previously served in various positions
at the company including as Executive Vice President, Chief Operating
Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and General Counsel of Bitstream
Inc.
Ms. Chagnon holds an MBA, summa cum laude, from
Babson College. She also holds a BS, summa cum laude, from Northeastern
University, and a JD from Boalt Hall School of Law at the University
of California at Berkeley.
