Pageflex Web-Top Publishing to
Produce Customized Coupons for $850-Million Printer
Leading marketing services firm Valassis
chooses Mpower and Mpower to drive direct mail and newspaper coupon
campaigns
CAMBRIDGE, MA March 18, 2003 Pageflex (NASDAQ:
BITS), a pioneer and leader of Web-top publishing, announced today
the signing of a major contract to provide Mpower and Mpower to Valassis
( NYSE: VCI), one of North America's largest marketing services providers.
Pageflex products are to become the engine behind a streamlined variable-data
workflow that will let Valassis customers quickly and easily customize
print materials for product sampling and targeted advertising.
The new agreement expands the reach of Pageflex Mpower and Mpower
within the targeted marketing arena and brings Valassis a powerful
new tool for Web-to-print, customized publishing. Mpower-driven
composition will improve processes at many stages for Valassis clients,
including design, pre-press, review, and print, and will integrate
with several Valassis customer relationship management (CRM) solutions.
And Pageflex Mpower will let even design-naïve end-users modify
templates within established guidelines using only their familiar
Web browser.
"Valassis is one of the top producers of customized coupons in
North America, and we are delighted that its leaders share the Pageflex
vision for versioning and variable-data publishing," says Pageflex
General Manager David Frenkel. "We look forward to a successful
implementation of Mpower and Mpower that furthers the Valassis mission
of connecting people to brands."
"We had been looking for several months for the right technology
partner to help our clients streamline campaign workflows," explains
Valassis Research and Development Manager Dave Rapp. "After discussions
with Pageflex representatives, we were convinced that Mpower is
the best pre-press engine in the industry for our direct marketing
services and that Mpower provides a revolutionary interface for
template editing. We look forward to building a smooth and speedy
new process that will ultimately bring huge wins to our clients
and help us continue our strong growth in the marketing services
arena."

Pageflex
Pageflex ( www.pageflexinc.com) is the pioneer of a new direction
in composition software: Web-top publishing. Moving beyond desktop
publishing, our Web-top publishing software helps novice users create
high-quality printed products using intelligent, flexible templates,
without installing or learning any new software. Pageflex templates
are intelligent and flexible because professional designers can
set rules to define which elements can change, how much they can
change, and who can change them. Our products maintain corporate
identity and design integrity while enabling sophisticated customization
of documents. Pageflex also leads the field in variable-data composition
software for both enterprise and desktop.
Pageflex software is used for a wide variety of applications, including
on-demand marketing materials, stationery and business cards, advertising,
catalogs, and personalized digital printing. Pageflex products are
distributed through original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), value-added
resellers (VARs), applications service providers (ASPs), and system
integrators (SIs). The Pageflex worldwide customer base includes
manufacturers, service providers, advertising agencies, commercial
printers, graphic design houses and ASPs. Users of Pageflex products
include Xerox, IBM, Ford, EFI, Coldwell Banker, Wunderman, Mail-Well,
httprint, and Spire.
Pageflex was established in 1999 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of
Bitstream Inc. (NASDAQ:
BITS, www.bitstream.com).
What makes Pageflex software different from all other
composition systems?
Desktop publishing requires users to install expensive software
and master superior design techniques. With Web-top publishing,
even beginners can turn out high-quality printed products, without
installing or learning any sofware, by using Pageflex intelligent
and flexible templates. Unlike ordinary templates,
these have sophisticated built- in rules that offer users a wide
range options to change graphics and text while preventing them
from making design blunders. Executives and designers can relax,
knowing that a remote branch can generate local content without
corrupting the corporate brand and identity.
