Bitstream Awarded Two Patents for Mobile Browsing Technology
CAMBRIDGE, MA — August 9, 2007 — Bitstream Inc. (NASDAQ: BITS, www.bitstream.com) today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has awarded the company two patents for its technology that enables browsing on mobile devices. This technology is the foundation of the company’s ThunderHawk™ product. ThunderHawk is the first browser to provide a consistent, full HTML browsing experience between mobile and desktop environments.
The first patent relates to technology that supports a better browsing experience on small screen devices. Included in this patent is technology that enables browsing of the combined overview view of a Web page and a magnified view. In addition, the patent covers technology that gives users the ability to show various views of Web pages, including overview only, magnified only, and a re-flown single column text view. The use of a magnifier floating over the overview area is also included in this patent. This unique “Zoom In/Zoom Out” split screen magnifier enables users to quickly find information and navigate Websites.
The second patent issues relates to displaying Web pages at different scale factors with optimized fonts to improve readability. Also patented is the concept of varying the font sizes differently than the scale factor so that content will flow differently at different scale factors.
Both patents include operating in a client/server environment.
