Lycoris and Bitstream Continue
Alliance to Bring High-Quality Fonts to Linux
Leader in Linux desktop consumer market
to offer high-quality Bitstream fonts in theme-based Paks
MAPLE VALLEY, WA and CAMBRIDGE, MA May 26, 2004 — Lycoris
and Bitstream Inc. (NASDAQ:
BITS) announced today that Lycoris will offer high-quality Bitstream
FontPaks on the Lycoris Web site. They will also be available in retail
outlets and through authorized resellers. These include twenty-five
different FontPaks organized by theme. Lycoris selected the fonts
from both the Bitstream Typeface Library (BTL) and the Breaking the
Norm (BTN) library, two extensive libraries of over 1,400 fonts. Bitstream's
typographers have more than two decades of experience making high-quality
typographic designs for developers of applications and operating systems.
"As we've been working to make Lycoris products, such as Desktop/LX
and ProductivityPak more appealing, we've found some products that
would benefit not just our users, but all Linux users worldwide,"
Joseph Cheek, CEO of Lycoris commented. "The FontPak series, with
licensed fonts from Bitstream, is the first of these new products.
FontPaks not only install quickly and easily on Desktop/LX, but
the fonts can be used on other Linux and BSD-based systems, including
Mac OS X."
"For the first time, the highest-quality fonts are now widely available
for the Linux platform," said Anna Chagnon, President and Chief
Executive Officer of Bitstream. "The mix of BTL and BTN fonts provides
Linux users with both classic Bitstream designs and fun, edgy, and
funky fonts from which to choose. Of course the Bitstream Typeface
Library includes our standard classic faces, but the Breaking the
Norm library offers new display, headline, and handwriting fonts,
with a few text families and pi fonts thrown in. We are happy to
be working with Lycoris to bring quality fonts to even more users
worldwide.
