General Info

Consists of kana and kanji. Kana are the Japanese
phonetic syllabic characters, consisting of 2 forms:
hirigana is a cursive script used to write native Japanese
words with no kanji equivalent; katakana is used to
spell words borrowed from other languages. Kanji are
characters adopted from the Chinese language.

Used in Japan.

Character Set

Shift JIS based on JIS X0208-1990
Level 1 - 2965 kanji arranged by (most frequent) reading
Level 2 - 3390 kanji arranged by radical and then total
number of (remaining) strokes.

Windows TrueType

Compatible with Windows 95/Windows NT (Japanese)
Shift-JIS character set + IBM/NEC 360 characters
Shift-JIS encoding (Windows 95)/
Unicode encoding (Windows NT)

Macintosh TrueType

Compatible with KanjiTalk
JIS X0208-1990 character set

PostScript Type1

CID:
Compatible with PostScript interpreter 2015 and above.
Adobe-Japan1-0 character set (based on JIS X0208-1983,
JIS C6226-1978, JIS X0201 - 1976)

Need CSL (CID Support Library) for PostScript interpreter
2011 and above. Bitstream currently does not provide
installer/downloader to install CSL
