Indian Language Fonts
Provided by C-DAC, a Bitstream Font Partner Bitstream has an agreement with C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing), GIST, of Pune, India, to license a wide variety of classic and contemporary Indian language fonts. Established in March 1988 as a Scientific Society of the Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India, C-DAC is primarily an R & D institution involved in the design, development and deployment of advanced information technology based solutions. C-DAC is a well-established organization with eleven offices in India. GIST Group is well-known for its work in Indian languages. The fonts are all OpenType typefaces that support popular Indian languages including the following scripts:
* Note that most Indian languagetext is composed and read left-to-right, although Persian-Arabic scripts such as Urdu, Kashmiri, and Sindhi are written right-to-left. You can use Bitstream Panorama to lay out complex lines of Indian language text. A text composition engine, Bitstream Panorama supports international languages, including such script languages as Arabic and Indian. Here are examples of Indian text composed for a mobile phone operating system. The screenshot on the left shows Indian text composed incorrectly (note the missing character boxes), while the one on the right shows Indian text composed correctly with Bitstream Panorama, our worldwide text composition engine.
