| How Font Fusion Provides the Best Solution
Bitstream's Font Fusion provides the
best possible output for digital TV of any font solution on the
market today. That is because Font Fusion has built-in TV modes
and anti-flicker filters to optimize characters on TV screens, whether
interlaced or progressive scanning is used.
Native Hints, Grayscale
|
|
When hinting characters - for example, using native TrueType
hints - the most important features of a character provide
the sharpest transitions. For example, on the letter "O,"
the most important features of the character, and the ones
that keep the character symmetrical, are on the top, bottom,
and sides of the characters -- the blackest areas of the character.
But on TVs, the hints, which are supposed to preserve these
important features, actually cause more
artifacts!

Font Fusion's TV Mode
and Anti-Flicker Filter
Font Fusion's TV mode helps preserve the
symmetry of the character shapes, such as the letter "O,"
by controlling the height and the width of the characters.
Font Fusion's anti-flicker filter helps
smooth out sharp transitions by spreading out font information over
several scan lines. In other words, the anti-flicker filter smooths
out the brightness between adjacent scan lines by providing more
transitional levels of color (or gray) between the foreground (the
text) and the background. The result? Less flickering and more legible
text.

and background
