TrueDoc Portable Font Resource Manufacturing System
The Bitstream Portable Font Resource (PFR) Manufacturing System is a utility that lets OEM and ISV developers create custom TrueDoc PFR resident font sets from standard TrueType and Bitstream Speedo outline fonts. As an add-on enhancement to Bitstream's proven TrueDoc Imaging System (TDIS), the PFR Manufacturing System lets OEMs & ISVs quickly and easily create their own resident font sets for their products. This unique system provides developers with a fast and cost-effective way to localize or customize products for specific markets.

Developers can now build resident font sets with any number of fonts, or with specially selected characters from existing fonts. OEMs and ISVs can use the utility to create PFR-based resident font sets containing foreign language fonts, MICR fonts, or other specialized fonts for specific technical requirements. For example, an OEM building a printer for the Russian market could use the PFR Manufacturing System to supplement the 45 resident fonts in a PCL 5e printer with a selection of Cyrillic fonts in an ISO Cyrillic symbol set such as 3R.

Based on Bitstream's patented TrueDoc Imaging Technology, the PFR Manufacturing System uses the TrueDoc Character Shape Recorder (CSR) to record and compress the character shapes from the selected TrueType or Speedo fonts. The TrueDoc PFR Manufacturing System automatically creates all the font data (the .PFR file and the Font Information Tables) needed for full integration into a product using Bitstream's TrueDoc Imaging System solution.

Specifications

Prerequisites
To use the TrueDoc PFR Manufacturing System, you must implement Bitstream's TrueDoc Imaging System version 5.1 or later.

Platform
The utility software is provided as ANSI C source code. It can be compiled on any UNIX Workstation (or any other 32-bit platform).

Memory
Bitstream designed the manufacturing System as a 32-bit application. For best results, the Manufacturing System requires 3MB of memory. 16MB is recommended.
