mPhase Technologies Licenses Bitstream Fonts for Customized Electronic Programming Guides
Agreement Enables Creation of User Interface in Multiple Languages
CAMBRIDGE, MA — April 3, 2006 — Bitstream Inc. (NASDAQ: BITS) announced today that mPhase Technologies (OTCBB:XDSL) has signed an agreement to license Bitstream’s Font Fusion technology and Bitstream fonts for their mPhase TV + System. Under this agreement, mPhase Technologies will use Bitstream’s Font Fusion technology to create programming guides in a range of languages.
mPhase, a pioneer in the delivery of interactive video services over telecommunications networks, is deploying the mPhase TV+ System in Russia, using the Bitstream technology as a platform for Cyrillic characters incorporated in the on-screen electronic programming guide (EPG).
mPhase licensed Bitstream’s Font Fusion font subsystem technology, together with a Zurich Roman WGL4 font. With this combination of technology and fonts, mPhase is able to produce scalable text in multiple languages. As the mPhase TV+ System is deployed in other countries, the font technology and fonts can be easily used to produce programming guides in other languages.

Font Fusion is Bitstream’s premier font subsystem, rendering
high-quality characters in any format, at any resolution, on any platform
or device. Delivering exceptional text rendering for consumer electronics
devices and mobile phones, Font Fusion is the ideal solution for small
embedded systems.
Font Fusion is both small and fast. Developers can compile the
source code in 36 KB on up, depending on options. It generates more
than 37,000 characters per second on a 450MHz Pentium II processor,
rendering a TrueType font at 25 lines per em.
