| Delta Hinting:
Enhanced Screen Fonts Bitstream offers Delta
hinting for PC and/or Macintosh TrueType fonts to enhance
screen legibility.
No one likes squinting at a screen of illegible text. You need
clear text that is easy to read on any device, at any size, and
at any resolution. One important, but frequently overlooked, aspect
of work environments today is how displayed text looks on a computer
screen. Unclear, jagged characters force people to focus more on
a product's limitations than on ease of use.
Delta Hinting involves hand-hinting each character in a font. Our
designers edit characters at all popular screen point sizes, typically,
9 to 24 point for VGA, Super VGA, and Macintosh screen resolutions.
In the example below, the top line of each point size is not delta-hinted,
the second line is the clean, delta-hinted version.

With Delta Hinting, the result is fine-tuned text that is easier
to read, particularly at small point sizes and on low resolution
devices such as computer monitors.
Who benefits from
using delta hinted fonts?
- Anyone required to read
large amounts of text directly
from screen displays.
- Anyone using custom
applications and documents, where text
is set at point sizes that can be difficult to read.
- Anyone developing software
applications, where screen
legibility is critical.
