Identifying the Characters in a Font with Windows
Problem
How do I find the characters in a font in Windows?
Solution
Windows includes a utility called Character Map for looking at the
characters in a font. With Character Map, you can view all the characters
in a font, select or type the characters you want to use, and copy
and paste them into your documents.
Note: You must install a font before
you can view its characters.
To use Character Map:
- Choose Start > Accessories
> Character Map.
- In the Font box, choose a font to
view.
- Select a character in the chart, and then click Select.
The character is added to the Characters to
Copy box.
- When you are finished selecting characters, click Copy
to copy all the characters you selected.
- In your application, use the Paste
command to paste the characters into your document. Apply the
font to the characters if necessary.
Installing
PostScript Type 1 Fonts in Windows Me/98 and Windows NT
To use PostScript
Type 1 fonts in Windows Me, Windows 98, or Windows NT, you need
to use Adobe Type Manager (ATM). ATM Deluxe, or ATM Light. All are
available from Adobe.
If you are running Windows XP or 2000, you do not need to install
ATM since it is part of the operating system already.
