ustomization is the process of adding content that is relevant to the intended audience. Customization often produces a single document that can be reproduced many times to create unique "versions" of the master document.

When you combine personalization with customization, you can take your variable publishing projects to new levels of variability. While personalization adds content that is personal to the reader, such as the reader's name or address, customization adds content that is relevant to the reader. Relevant content draws the reader's interest to the overall message.

Pageflex allows you to add customization to your projects in many different ways. For example:

• Online Editing—Online editing lets your customer edit sections of a document for a particular use.
  
  
• Content Variables— You can define project variables that add new content to each document, or you can add content from a Web form. The definitions of these variables can be based on fields in the project database. In this way, the values in the database drive the selection of additional content for your project.

Customization can be any text, images, and other content you want to add. Pageflex supports inserting PDF pages as document variables. With Pageflex document actions, you can expand the customization to change anything in the document from the formatting and color scheme to the selection or removal of additional content based on space constraints in each final document.
