Bitstream Previews ThunderHawk Java/J2ME™ Mobile Browser
at CTIA Wireless 2006

Award-winning technology brings real desktop browsing experience
to mass-market mobile phones

Las Vegas, NV — April 5, 2006 — Bitstream Inc. (NASDAQ: BITS) today previewed the company's ThunderHawk Java/J2ME™ mobile browser, which brings a real desktop browsing experience to mass-market mobile phones that would typically not have enough memory to run a full HTML browser. Bitstream is demonstrating a preview of the ThunderHawk Java/J2ME browser to mobile operators, device manufacturers and content providers in booth #3300 at the
CTIA Wireless 2006
exhibition running through April 7.

Mobile operators know that subscribers won't spend as much time browsing on a mobile device if they feel they are getting a substandard, hard to use, limited version of the Internet. Unlike other mobile browsers that typically repurpose, reformat or remove content so it will fit on small screen devices, ThunderHawk Java/J2ME Edition displays full HTML Web pages just as they would appear on the desktop for a superior user experience. Based on the company's award-winning client/server technology, ThunderHawk Java/J2ME offers:

  • Multiple mobile platforms. ThunderHawk Java/J2ME Edition covers a vast range of mobile phones, from mass-market to higher end phones.

  • Under 100 KB footprint. Removes complexity from the mobile device for full HTML browsing on mass market mobile phones that would typically not have enough memory to run a browser on the device.

  • Compact transport format. The scalable server end provides a high degree of Web standards compliance. Data is transmitted to the mobile phone in a compressed transport format, resulting in the fast download and display of Website content.

  • The best mobile browsing experience available. With ThunderHawk, Website content looks just as it does on the desktop. As a result, mobile operators will increase ARPU, device manufacturers will attract mobile operators and consumers, and content providers will increase traffic.

"Industry research cites that one of the main reasons mobile browsing has yet to take off on a large scale is because subscribers find that current offerings still don't feel like the 'real' Internet," said Anna Chagnon, President & CEO of Bitstream Inc. "If a browser reformats, repurposes or in some cases, even removes content, or the experience is slow or otherwise cumbersome, subscribers will spend less time browsing, if at all. In contrast, ThunderHawk Java/J2ME offers a small footprint and full HTML and open standards support, so mobile subscribers feel like their phone is truly an extension of the desktop," said Chagnon. "As a result, mobile operators can increase ARPU, while device manufacturers and content providers have another way to attract consumers to their offerings."
